4th Grade Electricity Basics: Switches

4th Grade Science Projects: Electricity Basics

This is a good video that teaches about electromagnetism.  I have found that some of the most interesting 4th grade science projects use electromagnetism.  This is an old navy clip (not the store), it is from the 50s.  I like it.

4th Grade Science Project: Build an Electric Motor

This is a great simple idea to test out.  It is very cool.  This isn't really a great whole 4th grade electricity science project, but it could be one of a few ideas if a student wanted to let other kids try some of the science.

4th Grade Science Project: Speaker Phone

If you have some junk speakers laying around the house, this might be a great 4th grade science project to look into.  The best science projects are the ones that teach kids to reuse old things.  The hands-on factor for this 4th grade science project should make it a pretty popular demonstration project for the science fair.

4th Grade Science Projects

This is a pretty interesting project that could actually be used around the house.  This is a little too advanced for a 4th grade project, but it might be a great parent/child project if you are interested in green energy.

Cheap Easy 4th Grade Electricity Science Projects

If you are looking for great books about electricity.  These are great for 4th graders.  They have easy to follow instructions and most of the project can be done with a few simple things that are pretty easy to scrounge up.  These books also get kids thinking about their own ideas for 4th grade science inventions.

4th Grade Science Projects: Inspiring Video

This is a great video that might inspire 4th grade students looking for inspiration for their 4th grade electricity fair project.

4th Grade Science Projects that Dad's Will Love

I love these projects and I am sure other dad's will too.  Check them out.  For our science fair, to get permission for some of these, parents will need to help supervise on the day of the fair.

This is a great 4th grade science project.  It has the coolness effect, but it is not too difficult for a 4th grade to explain the science behind it.  Here is the link to the site for this cool 4th grade science project.

I've always wanted to get one of those fancy machines you find at science museums that make kids hair stick up in all directions.  This is a cool 4th grade science project that is basically the same idea with a slightly different effect./  This is a cool idea for a science project that has "dad" written all over it.  Moms will like it, too!

4th Grade Science Projects #3

LEGO Electricity

LEGOS are great for science fair projects for kids.  They allow kids to build all kinds of ideas.  The one draw back is that they are very expensive.  Generators are a great topic for 4th grade science projects.  Here is a generator connected to a hamster wheel.  Go, Hamster Power!

4th Grade Science Projects: Electricity Project Ideas

Here are some ideas for electricity fair project for 4th graders.  These are good links for parents or teachers looking for ideas to help students.

The best 4th grade science projects are ones in which students invent their own solutions to problems using what they have learned about electricity.  Students who invent their own projects get the most learning out of the process.

This video is a great example of applying learning to solve real world problems.  This is a great idea for a $th grade science project bases on electricity.

4th Grade Science Projects: Inspiring Project Story

Here is an inspiring story for kids working on 4th grade science projects.  4th Grade science projects do not need to cost any money.  There are so many ways you can recycle things and use for 4th grade science projects.

4th Grade Science Projects: Green Energy Science Links

Hydropower is a pretty easy thing for 4th grade students to understand after they have learned how to make an electric motor.  Here are some reading resources for 4th grade science students to help them learn about the topic:

4th Grade Science Projects: Electricity

Here are some resources where 4th Graders can read and learn more about electricity.

Energizer has a nice learning center with some basic 4th Grade Science Project ideas.  I especially like the power pack that it shows students how to make.

Mr. Stead's 4th Grade Electricity Fair

Electricity Fair!
Project Due Date May 30th
 Electricity Fair May 31st

In class, we will be doing a science unit that covers circuits and electricity.  Students will be required to do a project that helps them investigate the topics we are covering in class.  I will be sending home a sample packet of project ideas, but I wanted to get students and parents thinking about the project now.

The electricity fair has become a highly anticipated event in our school.  Each year, we are looking for bigger and better projects that will excite and amaze.  I will be sending home more information about the event, but students should start looking for project ideas, now!

Students should have a project and a prepared explanation about the science behind the project.  Projects will be displayed to the other classes during a mini-fair (I will send home more information about the schedule for the fair).  Other students will walk through our classroom as students from our class explain how their projects work.  If a project has any special requirements, (it needs an extra table, it needs special hangers, needs to be prepared in advance, etc.) please let the teacher know in advance.

Students should have an understanding of these terms and concepts: circuits, conductors, insulators, resistors, switches, voltage, positive terminal, negative terminal, series circuits, parallel circuits, and circuit boards.

  • All projects should be accompanied by a poster that explains the science behind the student’s project.  The poster should be at least 18x24 inches.  This should be checked for spelling, grammar and neatness.

  • It is expected that students will need some help from parents on this project.

  • Parents should help their child prepare a short explanation or demonstration of his/her project (1-3 min.).

  • Parents will be invited to the fair.

  • No projects that involve shocking Mr. Stead.

  • Original ideas are encouraged.

  • Many of the supplies you may need for projects can be taken from old toys or electronics.

  • Using new technology is also encouraged.

Parents,

In order to have a variety of projects for the fair, I would like to know in advance what project your child is planning on doing.  If you could fill out this sheet and return it to me on or before April May 8th.  It would be greatly appreciated.
